So you just took delivery of your G-Wagon with a COMAND/Command upgrade—now what?
This quick guide shows you how to:
Pair your phone correctly
Make sure audio is set up the right way (this matters for sound quality)
Launch Wireless Apple CarPlay or Wireless Android Auto
Fix the most common issue: muffled sound / echo from using AUX instead of Bluetooth audio
Think of the upgrade screen as a visual extension of your phone.
Your phone still handles the heavy lifting (music, calls, maps, voice assistant), while the truck’s factory system stays in the loop so everything:
sounds correct through the factory amp
keeps steering wheel controls working
displays HVAC info and other vehicle data properly
When you first boot up, you’ll land on the upgrade’s home screen.
Tap Bluetooth
Pair your phone (if it isn’t already paired)
Confirm it connects
This helps the screen “talk” to your phone and enables CarPlay/Android Auto.
Next, go to:
OEM Car Info (this opens the factory COMAND system running underneath)
This is important because the factory system is what the upgrade integrates with in the background.
This is the big one.
Inside the factory COMAND menus, make sure your audio source is:
✅ Bluetooth Audio
❌ Auxiliary (AUX)
Why it matters: AUX often causes:
muffled audio
bass loss
odd EQ behavior
echo / “hollow” sound
Go to Bluetooth Audio
Open Device List
Confirm your phone is connected
Once this is correct, the truck is effectively “talking” directly to your phone for sound—while the upgrade screen is controlling the interface.
Now go back to the upgrade screen (tap the screen to exit OEM info).
Then:
Tap CarPlay (iPhone) or Android Auto (Android)
Once connected, you should automatically get:
Maps
Music
Calls
Voice controls (Siri/Google)
Steering wheel integration
You may also see HVAC controls show up on-screen, depending on the vehicle and integration.
If you hit CarPlay/Android Auto and nothing happens, check the system settings:
Go to Setup
Make sure CarPlay and/or Android Auto are toggled ON
Turn OFF the other mirroring modes you aren’t using (examples mentioned: Autolink / HiCar / AirPlay-type options)
Some units won’t allow everything to be enabled at once—so turning on the correct two options is the fix.
If your system functions but sounds wrong, do this:
Go back into OEM Car Info
Confirm you’re on Bluetooth Audio, not AUX
Reconnect your phone if needed
Key concept:
You’re not trying to play music through the AUX path
You’re using the upgrade to control the phone, while the truck’s Bluetooth audio handles sound cleanly through the factory amp
These systems can feel a little complicated the first time, but once it’s set up it’s straightforward.
If you’re stuck:
pairing keeps failing
CarPlay/Android Auto won’t launch
sound quality is off even on Bluetooth audio
