Discover how Alliance Auto Care performs a full G36 pre-buy inspection, covering engine fluids, belts, hoses, suspension, brakes, and interior components to ensure a potential buyer has complete transparency before purchase.
At Alliance Auto Care, our pre-buy inspections go beyond a quick glance—we get under the hood, under the vehicle, and inside the cabin. Today, we walk through a G36 inspection so buyers know exactly what they’re getting with this iconic Japanese import.
This G36 features the legendary M104 3.6L straight-six engine. It’s reliable, powerful, and durable—run it with proper oil and coolant, and it won’t let you down. During our inspection, we check:
Oil: Clear and clean, showing proper maintenance
Coolant: Full and correct color
Brake Fluid & Differential Lock Fluid: Brake fluid may be slightly discolored if sitting, signaling a flush is needed. Diff fluid full and ready
Power Steering Fluid: Check the cap for proper red fluid; any brown or glittery color is a sign of trouble
We also visually inspect belts for wear and hoses for leaks. This G36 had minor oozing on the power steering line—a common, serviceable issue.
With the truck lifted, we conduct a detailed suspension shake-down:
Tie rods, kingpins, and wheel bearings: No play detected
Differential locks: All three engaged flawlessly
Front axle and swivel ball service: Recommended due to age and mileage
The frame and underside are remarkably clean—no rust, corrosion, or major wear, making this G36 a rare, well-preserved example.
Brake pads are around 80% life, well-adjusted drum brakes provide proper stopping, and the drive shafts show no play. Transfer case mounts remain intact, and all rubber components are in excellent condition.
Inside, the vehicle shines:
Original door seals still pliable
Door wiring boots intact and waterproof
Steering wheel and dash free of cracks
Seats and carpets in excellent condition
Sunroof and vanity lights fully operational
Wood trim, armrests, and back seat mechanisms remain in perfect condition, offering a rare glimpse into a 30-year-old G36 preserved indoors.
The water pump and valve cover gaskets are scheduled for service—simple fixes that will ensure longevity. The fuel filter has already been replaced, and suspension upgrades can be considered for daily driving comfort.
This pre-buy inspection reveals a meticulously maintained G36 with original exhaust, catalytic converters, and AMG features intact. No rust or corrosion, healthy mechanical systems, and a clean interior make it an excellent candidate for ownership without major restoration costs.
If you’re considering a vintage G36, a thorough inspection like this ensures transparency, peace of mind, and confidence in your investment.
